VERIFLOW®  brewPAL TOUTED AS A GAME-CHANGER; KEY INDUSTRY PARTNERSHIPS FOLLOW

Philadelphia, PA (January 20, 2015) Invisible Sentinel, Inc., a global molecular solutions company providing first-in-class detection tools to advance quality processes, announces initiation of the final validation phase of Veriflow® brewPAL, which follows the successful development of this groundbreaking product for the brewing industry.  Developed in conjunction with Victory Brewing Company, Veriflow® brewPAL is the first product that provides same-day detection for the presence of Pediococcus and Lactobacillus species throughout the brewing process. This novel technology provides onsite detection and quantification of these microbes and reduces time-to-results from several days to less than three hours. Timely detection using Veriflow® brewPAL can prevent spoilage, preserve integrity and transform brewing quality control processes from reactive to preventive.   “We think this product will change the entire landscape, impacting the way brewers make informed decisions about their most coveted asset – the beer,” said Adam Bartles, Victory’s Director of Brewery Operations, following on-site validation at Victory’s state-of-the-art Parkesburg facility.   Invisible Sentinel and Victory are also excited to announce the addition of four new partners to complete the validation phase: Yards Brewing Company (Philadelphia, PA), Weyerbacher Brewing Company (Easton, PA), Russian River Brewing Company (Santa Rosa, CA), and Kettlehouse Brewing Company (Missoula, MT).   These award-winning breweries offer popular selections of craft beers, such as Yards Philly Pale Ale, Weyerbacher’s Merry Monks, Russian River’s Pliny the Younger, and Kettlehouse’s Cold Smoke Scotch Ale. This diverse group is focused on next generation technology solutions to support business growth and protect the quality of their brands.   “We are thrilled to be working with these esteemed craft breweries,” said Nick Siciliano, Invisible Sentinel’s Chief Executive Officer. “Their collective insight regarding the implementation of Veriflow® brewPAL at their respective facilities will verify the utility and value of our technology.”   Veriflow® brewPAL is ultra-sensitive and user-friendly, allowing brewers to cost effectively protect the quality of their products. “The test protocol was even easier than we imagined and, as we grow, this is going to be a crucial part of maintaining the integrity of our brews,” said Zach Miller, Victory’s Quality Assurance Technician.   “The feedback from Victory has been overwhelmingly positive, and we look forward to successful implementation at our new partners’ breweries,” Siciliano added. “We anticipate a global commercial launch of Veriflow® brewPAL in early spring.”

Exciting News From KettleHouse’s Bonner Expansion: K3 Has Water!

K3Well

Last week, drillers from Jerome’s struck water at the future site of K3: KettleHouse Brewing Company’s Bonner expansion. The location of the well is just upstream of the mouth of the Blackfoot on the far east end of the Bonner Mill. As you’re leaving Bonner heading east, it would be on your left after the last row house. For some exciting video of the moment when the top of the aquifer was breached at about 47 feet below surface, click here.  Drilling was stopped at about 120 feet where the water flow was awesome and pure. We’ll be testing the water this week and expecting the results next week.

Water is the single most important ingredient in beer. Without a pure source of water, we cannot make our World Cup(R) quality beers. The average brewery uses 7 gallons of water to produce one gallon of beer. At the KettleHouse Northside facility, our ratio is about 6 to 1.  Our new facility will be designed to improve on our water use ratio and better treat our effluent.

A stable and pure source of water is one reason why we picked this spot to build a 40,000 bbl packaging facility. It is part of the source of the Missoula Valley Aquifer  and is one of the best aquifers in the world as far as we’re concerned. The location of our well dips into the aquifer upstream of the mill site and all other development happening downstream towards Missoula. While we have yet to close on this property, finding suitable water with proper flow rates will remove one of the many hurdles we must clear to begin our expansion.  We are excited to take this step towards ensuring a stable supply of Cold Smoke(R) Scotch Ale, and others, as our demand continues to grow.

For some more cool facts about our water in the Missoula area, check out this awesome video the Clark Fork Coalition put together:

Introducing the Crowler® to our Southside Taproom!

crowler1KettleHouse Brewing Company is proud to offer Missoula’s first Crowler® – a 32 ounce can option at our Southside location. Originally developed by Oskar Blues Brewery in Longmont, Colorado, the Crowler® is filled to order in the taproom with any beer available for growler fills. The can is rinsed, purged with CO2, then filled and sealed right in front of the customer. The result is a recyclable package of great specialty and seasonal beer varieties (along with your favorites) canned to-go, perfect for all outdoor adventures.

Crowlers® have a shorter shelf life than our traditional cans due to the filling process, and are designed to be consumed within a week. However, they offer some advantages over growlers such as protection from light and decreased oxygen exposure, both of which are enemies of beer quality. Those features combined with a durable, lightweight and recyclable Crowlercan make for a great way to put beer in your boat or backpack and enjoy world class beer in a world class setting.

Why we need K3

$

Ever since we started canning Cold Smoke® Scotch Ale, we’ve had a problem keeping up with demand. I like to joke that we fail to plan for success. When we wrote our first business plan 21 years ago we set our sights high on quality and low on quantity. All we ever wanted was a job in Montana that would allow us to enjoy the world class recreational opportunities we have in this great state.  While our mission has never been to grow huge and take over the beer world, we have committed ourselves to “making it better” and continually improving quality. We take great joy in crafting world class beers for our friends and fellow Montanans to enjoy with our world class outdoor activities.

Since becoming Montana’s first modern brewery to package our beer in cans in 2006, we haven’t been able to keep up with the ever increasing demand. We thought “K2”,  our Northside expansion would take care of all our needs when completed in 2009.  Since we were capped by Montana’s 10k bbl limit law, we picked that facility because it was big enough to top out at 10k bbls of production.  We believed the “experts” who told us craft consumers wouldn’t go big for Montana made beer in a can. So we planned modestly. Now that we’ve found our sales potential to be higher than planned, we feel obligated to provide easier access to our beers for fellow Montanans in places like Great Falls, Billings, and parts unknown. See, we hear a lot about how people are filling up their trunks with Cold Smoke® to take to folks who can’t get it in their local markets.  So the timing is right for us to stretch beyond what we ever thought possible and expand to a first class production facility.

Our parents taught us that if you start something, do everything in your power to finish it. Building “K3” in Bonner is our attempt to at least get a start on finishing the “good problem” we created for ourselves by brewing a popular and award winning beer.

Thanks so much for the support over the last 20 years. We’re so very excited to begin sharing this journey with you and to see what happens in the next 20 on Cold Smoke Avenue.

Cheers!

Tim O’Leary and Suzy Rizza
